As a professor for Marketing at the Master Program Hospitality Management - F&B offered by the Università degli Studi di Palermo in collaboration with the Florida International University (Chaplin School of Hospitality & Tourism Management) in Miami, I had the opportunity to organize Sicily's first hotel concept competition, with the aim to bridge the industry today and those who will be the creative mind and industry leader tomorrow. The 3 teams had each 20 minutes time to pitch their concepts to a panel of industry experts who scored their presentations based on criteria such as creativity, competitiveness, feasibility and viability.



New Research Paper

My research paper 'A tale of three cities: Insight into the impacts of holiday rentals in France', co-authored together with Prof. Conrad Lashley (Academy of International Hospitality Research at the Stenden Hotel Management School), has been accepted for publication in Research in Hospitality Management. This paper is informed by a commercial research project commissioned to investigate the impact of holiday rentals in France with specific reference to three major tourist destinations.

VRMA European Conference 2017

As a member of the Planning Committee for VRMA's European Conference, I'd like to encourage vacation rental industry professionals to submit presentation proposals. Eurostars Expert Panel

I have been appointed member of the Technical Expert Panel for Eurostars, a joint programme between EUREKA and the European Commission, and co-funded from the national budgets of 36 Eurostars Participating States and Partner Countries with a total public budget of €1.14 billion.

Advisory Board for the InnoCoast research project

I have been appointed as Advisory Board Member for the InnoCoast research project, a unique collaborative project to revitalise coastal tourism in Denmark. InnoCoast aims to facilitate growth in in coastal tourist and tourism-related firms by providing knowledge on: 

  • Contemporary market mechanisms and innovation ecologies within the outdoor leisure domain.
  • The possibilities of digital technologies and innovative place design at museums and in coastal town environments.
  • Market trends and innovation potentials pertaining to food tourism value chains.

VRMA European Government Relations Summit 

I have been invited to talk at the VRMA European Government Relations Summit, taking place in Barcelona on March 8. The popularity of short-term rentals as a travel accommodation has grown enormously in the last few years. With that growth, policymakers across Europe have struggled to address some of the challenges that short-term rentals can present to local communities. Government advocacy continues to be critical to the success of the vacation rental industry, and it is essential for owners, operators, and hosts to become a part of that conversation.


Research Project: Vacation Rental Industry in Spain

I have been commissioned to conduct another research project for one of the world’s leading online rental marketplaces. The research aims to build a realistic estimate of the impact of the vacation rental industry in Spain, with a focus on licences and city planning issues in the country's metropolitan and coastal areas. The report is expected to be released in spring 2016.



VRMA European Seminar 2016 in Barcelona

The 2016 European Seminar of the Vacation Rental Manager Association (VRMA) will take place from 6-8 March at the Hotel Melia Barcelona, Spain. As a member of VRMA's European Seminar Planning Committee, I'd like to encourage vacation rental industry professionals to submit presentation proposals. We are interested in receiving proposals from Europeans who will share their experience with industry peers, especially those who own or work for a Europe-based holiday rental agency. As VRMA strives for educational excellence, we seek presenters who have a passion for their topics to further the industry. Research Project: Vacation Rental Industry in France

I have been commissioned to conduct a research project for one of the world’s leading online rental marketplaces. The research aims to build a realistic estimate of the overall impact of the vacation rental industry in France, and will investigate traveler demands and the industry’s economic impact to the community. The report is expected to be released in autumn 2015.

Made in Italy: Selling the Italian lifestyle abroad 

I have been appointed visiting professor for the master program “Management del made in Italy. Promozione enogastronomica e valorizzazione delle eccellenze del territorio”, to give a seminar on food and beverage marketing. The seminar will teach students how Italian food and wine producers can use product-country-image and country-of-origin branding to positively influence consumer buying decisions in foreign target markets. The course will take place in Palermo (Sicily) and is offered by Università di Lingue e Scienze della Comunicazione Milano (IULM) together with Cerisdi Castello Utveggio (Centro di Ricerche e Studi Direzionali) and INPS (Istituto Nazionale della Previdenza Sociale).

Speaker at the VRMA European Seminar

I have been invited to speak at the European Seminar of the Vacation Rental Managers Association (VRMA) and will present an educational session on Online Reputation Managmenet specifically designed for today's holiday rental professionals. The session will educate holiday rental professionals on how to manage online reviews, interpret guest feedback, improve guest service and property care to ultimately increase the number of booking enquiries and conversions rates.

I just returned from the Hotel ORM Conference in Palma de Mallorca where I gave the keynote speech to “How to manage your hotel´s Online Reputation”. It has been a great pleasure to speak at this highly successful conference, which was attended by academics, students, representatives of the Mallorca Hotel Federation (FEHM) as well as executives from several hotel-chains having its roots and headquarter on the island, such as Meliá, Iberostar, Barceló, Amic Hotels, UR Hotels and Marina Hotels.
